No the entire slot!

You have to remove the plastic at the end of the slot towards the back side of the card so it will slide into the slot.

Be carful not to bend the connector pins in the slot while modding. Or you can do as Ducky has done and use a riser card and mod that.

What if I just cut the end off the graphics cards pins instead of voiding the motherboards warranty?

Well, you could use this without the need to destroy the card or the board But what's the fun in that? I got a load of crappy cards that I can make a farm with, now I can use the 3 extra 1x slots

Well, no risers like that, what about take one like this and do what woofwoof said, slice off end of the connector of the riser I wouldn't know how to fit it into a case though...
