You have to remove the plastic at the end of the slot towards the back side of the card so it will slide into the slot. Be carful not to bend the connector pins in the slot while modding. Or you can do as Ducky has done and use a riser card and mod that. He has a thread with pictures.

What if I just cut the end off the graphics cards pins instead of voiding the motherboards warranty?

Well, no risers like that, what about take one like this and do what woofwoof said, slice off end of the connector of the riser
