The way my calc teacher explained it to me a few years back went like this...

Think of a complex formula that has 1 billion integrals in it. Folding is like your CPU and/or GPU taking one integral solving it, sending the answer back, and getting another integral to solve.

I'm a math guy so that kinda summed it up for me. I know that doesn't exactly specify your question but that's one way I think of folding.

If money wasnt tight for the power bill i would Fold for OCN, but im sure we can do it real soon.

I think we should have a day that everyone on OCN folds for 24 hours, straight. And see if we can gather alot more PPD
