I have a flouresent light above my utility sink on 24/7. Only on when I use it now. 30 watts saved.
I make sure my printer is off when not in use, 25 watts saved.
I set my outside lights (3 75w flood and 3 150 watt halogen) to only be on for 1.5 hours after sunset and then only turn on with motion. not sure exactly how to figure that one out (use to be 675 watts on ~8-10 hrs per day, now only 1.5-2 per day, maybe 200w saved per day?)
My power useage is about the same overall as before (going up now because of warmer temps and more A/C useage).

Awesome work. Its great to see people cutting down on the electricity they use and its great to see you have offset the best part of your Folding power usage

Great post, very interesting. Like someone else has said, I disagree about the whole 'eco' thing, but I believe we should never waste anything, be it power, money food, or anything else. Good luck with the 4550

interesting idea.

one thing i saw was that people were saying that all their electricity comes from renewable sources, and i would just like to add that all of our electricity (here in the U.S.) comes from a national grid, where the majority of it is made with coal, and your electric company adds their electricity to that grid also. so to say that all your electricity is 100% renewable (unless you run soley off your own solar panels or something) kinda doesn't make sense.

that being said i don't really think that our nation is in much of a position to be switching our infrastructure over to new tech ATM. we have a ton of people (coal miners for example) who rely on the system the way it works now, and if we all switched to renewable energy they would be out of a job.

Of cause the energy that comes out of your wall is produced in a power station next to your home.
You can't change that and in most cases you don't know what resource is used completely.

The point is that the company you buy your energy from buys it from power plats that are water, wind or solar driven.
So for amount you take from a lokal power plant is put into the system somewhere else but this time from green source.
If more people demand this green energy more money is invested to increase the "green" output.
If no one would care, the big electricity companies only construct coal and atom driven plants as they are cheaper, atm.

I'm not an idiot and I know that there is not enough renewable energy produced these days to fuel all needs.
But I know that I can help to increase that amount by spending my money on a company that does guarantee to use renewables only...

Well I don't know if you have such an open market for electricity in the USA.
In Europe it is possible to buy the energy from any companies (even power plant if they resell it direct) in the Schengen Agreement area.
Sadly the market is dominated by huge companies that supply over 90% of the households just because people don't know better or don't care.

I haven't scanned this whole thread, but I believe the card with the best PPD/watt is the 8800gs, which is no longer made, neither is the original 9600gso.

I wish I had a link to the chart, it is very helpful in determining the best PPD/watt card and the best PPD/$ card. Of course, the best bang for the buck in the long run will always go to the best PPD/watt card because of the electric bill savings.

Yeah for sure. I could not have gone for an overly power hungry card anyway due to my PSU lol.

What setting do you have for monitoring PPD?

In FahMon 2.3.4, click FahMon (which is in the menu bar) -> Preferences -> Monitoring -> Use experimental reload system. Use the 'time left' and 'Last 3 frames' setting. Also, while you're in there, make sure the 'Ignore Asychronous Clocks' checkbox is checked.
