I fold with my modd'd 8800GS's and love them..I get ~4900PPD on average with each of them.. A 9600GT will never see PPD figures that high..not ever.
*My clock speeds for folding = 820mhz core/2052mhz shaders/ 1045mhz mem

thanks for the link but rebates are no good for me since I live in Pakistan atm... they will reject the claim as soon as they see the postage

It is just a rebranded 8800gs i have one and i like it for $60 you cant just might just build a folding farm with them
O and watch out some of the new ones have less stream processors

Your figures aren't exactly accurate because you don't take into account the cost of all the other hardware. A single 4x9800gx2 box will be significantly cheaper than 3 4x9600's because you are saving money on 2 cases, cpus, motherboards, ram, power supply, hard drive, windows licenses, etc.

@sreg0r
a case I dont need and as for the rest : windows license I have from my dads office hard drives I have a CRAP load of 80GB hdds which are enough for folding ram are about $30 for 2 x 1GB so not a big problem PSU is a slight problem but I would have to get 2 PSUs for the 4x 9800GX2s anyways mobos are $100 each I have one AMD AM2 cpu laying around here so it really isnt THAT big of a jump and its still cheaper... 9800GX2s are AWESOME at folding its just that they are a MUCH bigger investment than I am willing to put in... and as I said it was too much for me I know it will be different for other ppl but for me 9800GX2s are uneconomical EDIT: I got the two 8800GS so atm my inventory includes: 1 9600GSO 3 8800GS ![]() thats one folding rig down 2 more to go

I run my vmod'd GS's on air-cooling @ 735mhz core/1836mhz shaders/1009mhz mem.. average of 4100 PPD... the key to getting high PPD is raising the shader speeds.. keeping them as cool as possible will help you nail higher shader clocks.. but typically the 1836-1889 range is max with stock GPU voltage.

With the new 1888WUs I get around 4000 ppd, which is half of a GTX280 for about 400 bucks less.
Edit: both at stock clocks.
