Default SMP taking so much from GPU?

So I'm getting 7k (up to 7800) ppd on my gtx 260. As soon as I start up vmware smp, That'll drop to half. Even when setting priority idle on smp and 'low' on gpu. I'd like to pick up that extra 1k pdd from my smp folding, but right now it's a net loss. Any ideas.

The gpu client always uses the cpu a fair bit, but what i would do is set the affinity so that vmware and the gpu client would use separate cores(better suitable for 3 or 4 core cpus) or set the smp prority to below normal and gpu to above normal.

I think that you are supposed to set gpu to high and smp to low or idle.

I've done that. GPU has a higher priority than the smp client.

If high on the gpu priority doesn't help, then you're asking a little much from your c2d.

This is one of those occasions where a c2q is beneficial.

If physx is enabled that's why, physx will pwn your GPU ppd but help the SMP a little.

Quads tend to be the chip of choice for folders.

I just run 1 VM with SMP, with 2 cores dedicated to that, and have the other two cores dedicated to babysitting the GPU.

Thank you

Strange out of the 6 NV cards I've folded with, physx enabled/disabled has 0 impact on PPD.
If you're not locking the affinity, then that's your problem IMO.
