I just read some really touching posts from members here, so I want to create a thread for us to give reasons on why we fold. I'll start.

I fold because one of my closest friends lost a sister several years ago due to cancer (not sure exactly what type...I don't ever bring it up to him). She was only 10. It's hard for me to see him in his misery so often. My paternal grandfather also died from cancer when my dad was only in his teens. I never got to meet him... Someday I believe we will finally find a cure for all the cancers out there. Someday soon. This is why I fold for the cure.

I fold because it was painful for me to watch my dad, ex-soldier, and usually the pillar of our family, get weakened so much by chemotherapy that he looks more like my grandfather now.

I volenteer at a camp for children with special needs, and it's conforting to know I can look them dead in the eye and say "I care". That I can tell the parents that their children are in my heart, and that I never stop caring. I have seen 16 year old kids with cerebral palsy play in a pool for the very first time in their lives, and I have held the parents as they cry while their kid does the simple act of play and splash in the pool. I have seen so much sorrow, and yet, so much happiness. People can get caught up in the point system, but do remember the faces behind which your points help.

I fold because:
A Close friend of mine has introduced me to a lady that has lost her daughter about 2 month ago due to cancer. her daughter was 2 years younger then me, damnit the girl was only 22 ! . i ve so far provided her with a free pc, and now i ve sold my 955 rig to build a folding rig + a small rig for me, the main cause was the folding rig itself that i ve sold my am3 that was freshly built. anyways. the lady has gone thru a lot with her daughter fighting cancer for about 3 yrs i believe. the lady didnt have enought money for a computer, so i decided with my friends to build something up. and you guys wouldnt believe how good it feels to finally GIVE someone you dont even know but you know went thru a very bad time, something good. the lady since then has inspired me to get my folding rig more and more equipped. due to funding issues im currently only folding on a 260 but im doin it 24/7 i ll be looking for a second mid august. i m taking my right to leave my family out of the discussion since its for me to difficult to really talk about situations there.

thanks to all the folders out there. and keep on goin im goin to go big once i get settled in the us and get my visa papers and job. till then ill be just a single rig folder, but with passion!

I had an uncle who raised me died of lung cancer
my grandpa passed away this jan due to alzheimer
one of my best friends had leukemia thankfully he recover
there's some kid on tv right now who needs a doner
for marrow transplant otherwise he is a gonner
i am not brave enough to give my organ to another
or smart enough to discover a cure cancer
so folding is probably my only contribution to this matter
and hopefuly people's lives will get better

btw i just started 3 weeks ago lol

Dude thats really cool of you. I wish there were more people that are as compassionate, caring and empathetic as you. Thats really awesome REP+


As for me, why do I fold? Because its the right thing to do. I have had several family members pass away due to cancers. Some of my wifes family afflicted by debilitating diseases such as Lou Gherigs disease (SP?) and various neurofibromyalgias.
While at the moment I don't have either of my folding rigs up and running (SLI modding the boards), I hope to have them both fully functional by the end of the weekend.
