Default Dummy plug only needed to start F@H

Ok so last night I misplaced one of my dummy plugs and radio shack was closed. Basically I had folding running on my dual 8800GT rig but wanted one dummy plug for my gtx285. I was curious what would happen if I just pulled the dummy plug. So I pulled the dummy plug out and went to sleep, when I got up this morning its still chugging away on BOTH gpus. I'm planning to test this on my sig rig.

Anyone else want to try this? I think its great for people who are adding a new card but are out of resistors. Or it saves you about $1 for a pack of resistors, lol.

Short version: It seems a dummy plug/monitor is only needed to start fah. Then it can be removed and folding continues.

EDIT: System is running windows 7 RC x64 and 190.62 nvidia drivers.

I read in another thread that this will work, as long as you don't reboot. If you reboot you will need the plug again.

Either way, good to know you can take it out once things are up and running.

I found that when you initially setup your GPU clients you don't need all of your empty ports plugged in. But then you'd have to redo everything from scratch every time you had to reboot or close a client which isn't practical.

Yeah, def would need one on reboot. But whatever, its a good temp solution. I wish I knew it before, I lost 2 days of folding due to not having enough dummy plugs made.

I used to run all my rigs like that, then I started getting issues. I would suggest replacing the other dummy plugs when you get a chance. Should work just fine for the meantime.
