But thanks, will start it up once my Notfred's finishes its current WU -- no point in wasting perfectly good folding cycles!

Is there something wrong with notfreds that is making you switch? I'm fairly certain that you can use all 4 cores with notfreds as well. You just need to go into the set up and change it to use 4 cores. I've never used it, but have seen some screen shots of web interface.

No, I like notfred's, especially how easy it is to set up and run. Just looking for better speeds, and I had read somewhere that error10's and/or balwolf's outperformed notfred's. I am now running notfred's on 3 of 4 cores, and am getting 3000 PPD (3 not 4 cuz this is my main machine. So I want to at least try another client just for kicks, and will once this WU completes.

That makes sense, I've used bal3wolf's for a long time now. I haven't had the need to switch over to any other client.

3K seems awfully low for 3 cores on the 940 unless it's running stock.

That's what I thought, esp since it's not stock, it's 3675 and that didn't happen by itself, as we all know, so I want my pee pee dees.

I was getting 3200ppd on the 550be, then when the new core came out it dropped to around 2800-2900ppd. That was at 3.7ghz.

So glad I switched to bal3wolf's! PPD showing 4000 right now, on 3 cores, on Phenom 940 @ 3675mhz (210x17.5). That's up from max 2700 PPD using notfred's!

I wasn't sure I was running the right machine though, since there were 4 listed: Ubuntu64-OCN, Linux64_FAH, Folding@Home, and OCN Folding@Home. I chose the first one.

i get 4100-4600 PPD depends if GPU2 is doing an 1888 pointers {SMP faster when 1888} (A2 cores any project) with Notfred (AMD Phenom II 940 at 3Ghz not wanting to overclock it as i killed my last motherboard with an phenom 9850)

so i guess its 1000 PPD per core, that PPD your getting still seems low due to the extra 600Mhz per core even if it has been lowered to 3, have you set the ram to ganged mode (default i think is unganged not sure if that would affect performance)

i have an look my at dif ones but notfred just set and forget it auto backs up so if i want to play an game i just power it off (making sure the HDD light in the VM is not flashing before powering it off)

the time Drift i was getting was due to running 2 VMs at the same time makes the VMs run at half speed (each VM was set to 4 cores so was making time go slow Use FAHmon affective time when monitoring as that showed the issue)

Well now. I had a bsod and when I restarted the vmware tray app said that there was a problem with a file in programs/vmware. I looked at the files and then decided to uninstall. From that I got an error for a file in allusers/vmware folder. I tried deleting everything including what was pertinent in the win database. Now I am trying to install the Player v3 and I am now getting this error with the msi file that is in windows install folder.

Any ideas as to what might fix this?

I got it going but I"m losing major PPD in both GPU and VMware no matter what I try. Everying is tip top over 5k ppd with notFred vmware and good ppd on GPU with my 4870.. but when I run them both CPU drops to 3k if i'm lucky, and GPU goes down a good 1k..

I am pretty sure it's to do with priority and affinity, but i've seriously been looking for a long time for a good reference as to how to have these set, either via task manager or otherwise.. could someone lay this out in very simple english, maybe even with pictures? I dont know why this isn't in the sticky about what to know.. cause i'm sure most ppl run a GPU and CPU client.. at least sometimes.. THANKS IN ADVANCE!
