Default Folding with god-awfully old hardware for a Senior Project.

Title says it. I'm going to attempt to fold some old machines. I'm starting with an old Compaq Proliant 1600. I pretty sure its got two PIII's clocked at 800Mhz under the hood. But I plan on running my whole farm on Ubuntu. Has anyone here attempted to fold with super old stuff? I can read the guides but I want your guy's opinions on this, what should I do? what should I watch out for? And what shouldn't I do?

Thanks!

EDIT: Oh, and the other rigs I plan on connecting in the farm consist mainly of Apple G4's.

You'll probably get 1-2PPD, haha! Not really sure you should watch out for anything, but I'm not entirely sure F@H will work on those computers at all.

The uniprocessor client might run but it won't net much PPD. The PPD to electricity ratio may not be worth it. YMMV

Well, I'm not trying to get uber bucket fulls of PPD, this is more of a learning experience/impress the people at school. Not to disrespect the noble cause behind folding, however.

Oh no I understand where you're coming from, just thought I'd throw out that caveat.

IF you have a bunch of computers that are exactly the same you could cluster them.
Quote:
The following kernels and distributions are what are being used:

* Kernel 2.2.16-22, distribution KRUD 7.0
* Kernel 2.4.9-7, distribution KRUD 7.2
* Kernel 2.4.18-10, distribution KRUD 7.3
* Kernel 2.4.20-13.9, distribution KRUD 9.0
* Kernel 2.4.22-1.2188, distribution KRUD 2004-05

These distributions work very well for us since updates are sent to us on CD and there's no reliance on an external network connection for updates. They also seem "cleaner" than the regular Red Hat distributions, and the setup is extremely stable.

I can't really remember how much my G4 800MHz produced, but I'm convinced it was either around 300PPD or 70, haha!
