hey everyone I have a Dell Poweredge 4600 2x xeon 2.6 ghz 4 gig ram SCSI Raid 5 w/os on SCSI Raid 2 and additional SCSI for tape autoloader. windows small business server 2003. I am toying with the idea of adding a second video card on the pci bus and adding an extra monitor solely for the purpose of monitoring critical server functions ie FAHmon. (this is not used in business production by the way simply a toy/home server.)
So if I am going to add another card anyway i have been thinking why not get a gpu card that I can fold with. I am currently running 4 instances of FAH as this is not a 64 bit machine and am getting roughly 500 ppd out of it. anyone have any experience with high end cards in a server will they even work or would I be so limited in my bus bandwidth it would not be worth it. rep for answers either way. and thanks in advance

from what I read hear and there you might get 400-600ppd from a GeForce 9500 GT if your lucky
pci is just to slow.

Yup dont bother with PCI folding, to expensive for to little folding performance...

there is no performance drop between the pci and pcie when folding.

My laptap has a 9600M GT, which is about equivalent to a 9500GT and I get up to 800ppd out of it. PCI might just have a bandwidth that it won't eat into that number too much if he gets the PCI edition of the 9500GT. The real question is: "Is it worth spending $85 to get this card?" Quote:
Got proof?

If money is no object, go for it! Its helping the cause either way. Honestly, if you dont expect huge ppd out of it, then you wont be disapointed. GL with whatever you decide to do!

I dont, but it has been tested and results have been posted in the folding section a long time ago...
__________________When you are folding, most of the the work is done on the GPU... there isnt very much going back and forth between the CPU and GPU, so the pci bus speed isn't very important.
