Default Video Card Offer

Today I got an offer on my HD4770 for a 9600GT + U$65. My HD4770 is worth ~U$170 here and the 9600GT (if new) U$140. I was thinking: should I accept the trade? How well will the 9600GT fold? Would it suffocate my GTX 260 if I put in adjacent slots?

Thanks a lot everyone!

idk about the deal
but for PPD, my 9600GT only does like ~3.8k ppd on a 353 pointer
and thats with a pretty heavy OC (as seen here http://www.overclock.net/nvidia-cool...g-temps-p.html)

I know, but I was wondering if the extra power draw is worth it. The HD4770 isn't being used ATM. Seems like there is a 59W model and a 96W, not sure which one is being offered to me.

No, The double slot cards are designed to be stacked together and still be able to breathe. They are curved around the fan area. So if you put a 9600 card below it, the 260 will be able to get fresh air still.

The 9600GT is not a good folding card. It is only 48SP. An 8800GS would do better at folding. I would not suggest doing that trade.

As for folding with your GTX, I read somewhere that some of the latest drivers allow for folding with different SP without causing issues, but I cannot confirm.

This.

The 9600GSO (92SP, 196-bit) is what you would want,(or 8800GS as mort said) not the 9600GT. It may beat the 4770 just a bit at folding but not enough to bother with imo.

You can get the GT or the GSO for under $100 each. It's not worth $140.

agreed with most everyone. If you want to get better ppd, sell your card outright and buy a 9600gso off the egg for like 50-60 bucks after rebates
