Ok well i never worked with the workstation version. But you could download VMware player 3 its not that big of a file and then follow the instructions from the guide like normal. I believe that would work.

Do you have a .iso or just a disk to install kubuntu from? If you have an .iso you can just follow the instructions as if you had ubuntu. The basic setup of the virtual machine is the same, you just have to substitute your iso for the ubuntu iso. I have installed redhat and opensuse in vmware in the past, but not with as good results as this last time. As far as installing it from a disk im not exactly sure how to do that. Also the image i got from ubuntu was just under 700Mb, not 3.5Gb like most linux releases, so if you have to download it doesnt take so long.

I figured it all out and got it working. Downloading a 700mb file on a 384kb/s line with a 3GB cap would take forever, not to mention the fact that it would eat lots of my cap

After having some BSOD's I decided to try setting this up again as a clean install. Followed the instructions, set memory to 1024GB, and after creating the VM, changed the VM to use 3 processors. After starting to fold, this message appears in the terminal window right before the folding begins:
NOTE: The tpr file used for this simulation is in an old format, for less memory usage and possibly more performance create a new tpr file with an up to date version of grompp Is that anything I should be concerned with? Just thought I'd check, otherwise, the folding is going smoothly (keeping fingers crossed!) thanks,

Perfect timing! I was thinking about doing this as I'll be changing all my hardware around next week! You just saved me tons of hassle. +rep

I think so, but maybe because I had left the memory at the default, which was pretty low. They never occurred right away, either, and the closest WinDbg could get me was to tell me it was a Hardware/Driver error, but so far so good right now. When I tried a fresh install today, the folding time per frame was up more than 10 minutes, so I am back to bal3wolf's for now. Not sure why it'd be slower on my rig. Does it matter where I have the Ubuntu ISO located? I wasn't sure if it was better off in my program files directory or the same drive as the VM, or a third drive maybe?
Yeah, my bad, hehe, 1GB is more like it...
