Default Best upgrade for less than $200?

So I figure the best way to significantly increase output for my sig rig for less than $200 is a GTX 260. However, I've been out of the loop lately and I want your guys input.

Is a GTX 260 the best move? Are there any new cards coming out within the next couple months that might fall in the $200 range after the price drop?

Thanks

The only thing I can think of that might be worth waiting on is it to see if GPU3 really does make a difference in ATI cards, but there isn't any release date for it.
That being said, I'm running 4 260's in my rigs and they're cranking out anywhere from 8-9k each so they do pretty well.

You might try looking in the For Sale threads and on craigslist/ebay for them too. Usually find pretty good deals sometimes.

As a general rule of thumb when buying hardware stuff is that new technology is always around the corner, so spend as much as you can comfortably afford now and you should be happy. If fermi was set to release next month I might be saying different, however it should be a bit in to 2010 before we see new desktop cards from nvidia.

GTX 260 is about $180 and will get you about 8k average ppd, it is probably the best PPD/$ card on the market other than a used GTX 295.

Get a used GTX 260 for around U$130, then sell your GTS 250 and get another one!

If you need more power now sli with another 250 and wait for newer tech. Not worth buying a 260 imo

His board is not SLI compatible.

OP, why are you looking into NViDiA? What about some ATi cards? You can always nab a 5850, which is I think 190$, and I'm pretty sure destroys the 260. Or get a 4850, sell your 250, then get another 4850 and CFX it!

yeah, but, we are in the Folding@Home section here... and I am pretty sure the 5850 does not come anywhere close to destroying the 260 at folding... yet

And buying another 250 is also not that great of an idea. The 260 doesn't cost that much more.

For $200, the best cards for folding would either be a GX2 (pick up one of Val's ) or a 260.
