Default PPD for my computer? Extremely low it seems.

So, i was wondering around what points per day i should be getting on my processor. Currently i'm lucky if i get 300-400 ppd, which seems extremely low to me. I realize it's not a very powerful processor, but i thought it could do a little better .

what client are you running?

You can probably run an SMP client for the dual core, however, I would worry about heat since laptops arent the best and keeping the processor cool.

I'm running the standard GUI client, and from what i read the SMP client only works on 4 core? Is this wrong, or...
Quote:
First off, in order to run dual instances of SMP, you have to have a quad. If your running a duo, you can run SMP, just not dual instances. Ok, lets get setup. First, go ahead and download SMP 5.91, here is the link.
Sooo, i can only use one core?

Nope, I run the SMP client on a dual core. It might not work with the linux clients, but if you use stanfords smp client with the updated executable, you should see a gain. I went from about 300-500 ppd on each core, to 1500-2000ppd using the smp client.

I've got to do some reading it seems, as i was also under the impression that i could only run one core with dual core.

When i go to configure my options in command prompt, doing "Folding (name of .exe) -configonly -smp" instead of going through the options etc. it simply shows a blank area and goes back to the folder. Any clue as to what's been done wrong?

You didn't download the drop-in replacement executable. It is available on Stanford's download page. Delete the old *.exe and save the updated *.exe in its place.

Now i've got it set up, but when running the .exe it says it's failing to get work units >_>. I've got no firewalls or anything, so it's not that.

Edit: Got it, just added -smp to a shortcut.

Edit2: Or not, i give up for tonight.

Sometimes it will not be able to connect to the assignment server on the first couple tries. If you wait a few minutes and it still doesn't get a WU assignment, then you may want to investigate the 'use internet explorer settings to connect to the internet' option.
