Default Getting stable with 9800GX2+GTX260 [was :machine for folding only]

I bought a used 9800GX2 in the For Sale section, naively thinking I could use it on my main machine, but unfoturnately that is not the case (according to EVGA it has to be an Nvidia chipset or an Intel P55 or X58 -- my 790X-UD4P just won't work, though I still find it hard to believe...)

Anyway, I am stuck with the GX2 (there are worse things to be stuck with, I know) so I am resolved to build a standalone folding-box. I'd like the minimal parts, to run a flash drive memory version of Linux or whatever on it. For hardware, I'd like the GX2 be the real guts of the machine, with minimal everything else, but I am not sure what the requirements are in terms of memory, CPU, PSU, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I should get? I don't care what it looks like, so I was thinking a refurbished or used case would be an easy start, but what are the bare minimum requirements to run a GPU-folding-only machine? I'm hoping I could do this for under $200, or less, even, if possible. I have a spare hard drive, DVD and flash drive already, so I'm looking for help of figuring out the mobo, CPU, PSU, and memory.

Thanks!

It'll work in your mobo, you just can't SLI another card with it.

You can't sli with your board, but you can fold on it with the GX2.

Yes, I have. See thread. I gave up finally. But if you think it should work and might have some idea on how I can get it going, that'd be great, I'd love to give it another shot, and then I can return the GTX260 I bought to use instead!

Will it fold for as many PPDs as if it were in SLI? And do you guys think I can get it going on a dual monitor setup, without crashing Windows 7 x64? That seemed to be the challenge, I never even got around to getting it folding. . .

You might uninstall the drivers, run a driver cleaner/sweeper, and reinstall them. Might fix the problem.

You can run multi nvidia GPU's on an ATI board as long as you're not looking for SLI. I run three 260's on my K9A2 Platinum with no issues.

You can fold in SLI, wouldn't recommend it but I'm just saying that you don't need SLI to fold on multi nvidia cards on an ATI chipset.
