You can use the same name and same machine number on different computers. The number only comes into play when running multiple instances on the same computer.

It doesn't hurt anything to change the machine IDs across multiple computers; it just doesn't make a difference unless you're running multiple instances.

Default Folding help, please.

I am new to folding and have a"noobie" question. I hope this is the right spot for it

I've reinstalled XP and Linux on my PC's that are folding and then re-installed the folding program, but, it doesn't show my processed WU's? Is that a big deal? It affects my ranking right? Also, I have two computers folding and soon to be three (and so on); can I link them together? Soon I will be creating my first RAID0 on one PC and trying out Vista on the other witch means re-installing the folding programs and starting at zero again

Thanks
Steve

Ranking is based solely upon work submitted to Stanford's servers, so changing systems, reformatting, etc. does not have any effect upon your standing on the team. The WUs shown on a given installation of the folding software applies only to that installation; if you have multiple computers, they will keep their own totals. Stanford keeps track of everything actually submitted, though (even if their count of WUs is often high...the points are really what matters anyway).

As far as linking systems goes, just be sure to use the same name and team number. If you want to keep track of all of your systems from one computer, try a program like FahMon (see FAQ in my sig for more info).

Okay, I gave up on my prime attempt and am now folding my first WU... a couple of Q's tho...

Due to heat issues, I'm only folding @ 50% on one core, my idle has gone from 45 to 49-50. (100% both gets my temp bouncing off 67°C)

I can do full power all time but I prefer not to, as this primary rig is on almost all time. How do I get the graphical folding to run on both cores (is it the same as the console: 2 diff folders)

and......

I work in IT and have access to quite a few customers computers, can someone talk me through stealthily installing the clinet software and having it run silent so the users don't even know it's running? An example is a language school with about 15 Celeron 1Ghz's... If I can get them folding for the cure and Overclock.net 37726 we all win! The main issue is having it transparent to the users... if I can do it well and not have it popping up asking for internet access or permission to do anything - I could even install it on pc's bought in for repair and new builds.

Surely even if I run 'em at limited cpu% every WU completed counts????

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, but I'm starting to see double from all the reading I've done tonight about folding.

I wouldn't suggest installing the program without the owner’s knowledge or permission.
