When it gives you a time of aproximate finish its usually an estimate and once you get going that number will dramitically decrease.

Do I have to be connected to the internet while folding, or can I connect, get a WU, disconnect, process the WU and then upload it when it's done?

I leave the folder(s) connected so it will automatically send another WU!
I only started April2 and moved up quickly with 2 folders running about 98% of that time. Ones a 1700+ stock and the 2nd is the 2600M in my sig

I have dialup internet though because I live out in the sticks. I read the FAQ on autodialing and disconnecting, and while it is working it doesnt use any network, so I guess I could disconnect while it works, but do you know if I will run into any problems if it tries to upload the work back and it can't? That's what I was worried about and the FAQ page at the stanford site doesn't address this.

Hi RyGuy,

To your question - No The WU will continue to try and upload. I don't know if there is a time out on this or not, but in the past I've had my cable connection disable and the WU just tried for hours trying to connect. When I opened the internet connection, it uploaded and downloaded another unit.
What this does is slow down the number of work units you can complete over time, but will not impede the work units from being completed once started.

I understand the dial up deal. Some areas of the United States don't have cable, or other services available yet. Also in heavily populated areas there are limits as to how long you can be connected to the ISP service. My Dad long ago has GTE in Calif. During peaks hours Monday thru Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm he could only be connected 30 minutes. It really sucked... but the only service he had in the area.

BTW - Welcome to the world of Folding!!

I hope this helped, :-)
