You can give FAH a higher thread priority if you want to keep it running at a decent rate while using other applications. However if you're using processor intensive applications (Photoshop, newer 3D games, etc.) you should leave the thread priority at Low (default) or Below Normal.

Hi Taeric,
Ok then, I'm on the list (#590) and on your team (37726). As I said earlier, this feels right! A Rep+ for you, as if you need it! Thanks for the thread, the help and the forum. :-)

put me in coach! team 37726, maddrfookenstein--icon says: working 1/400--so I guess it's doing it. I woulda liked to have got in on genome, but this is cool too 'cause the kid who drew my avatar (the catgurl) has hemophilia F-IX, and protein research is therefore all good. And he's my son, as well.

Welcome aboard. Yup, you're good to go. Once your first work unit (WU) finished, post in the check in thread (linked above in the FAQ), and you'll get your nifty little folding icon.
There is very little data transfer between the software and the server. It only runs at the ends of the WUs, and the largest transfers are always less than 10 MB (most are much smaller - there's an option to enable transfers >5 MB but even with that option checked, you won't always get large WUs). Yes, you can turn the computer off. It's best to manually shut down the folding program rather than letting Windows do it as that sometimes results in loss of work. You have some restart options - manual, Start Up folder, and running it as a service (if you are running the console version). This is a great project that has the potential to do a lot of good for a lot of people, and we're glad to have you on our team.

I am at work right now but as soon as I get home I'm going to start.
Say, is it possible to run TWO work units, ONE FOR EACH of my CPU cores?
