I've noticed quite a few OCNers that play Gmod. More than enough to populate a build server...I figured it's about time we get one. I volunteer to staff it, as I have a lot of experience staffing a Gmod build server(And have quite a few mingebans under my belt ). Nothing complex, just a simple build server with the major mods on it.


So what do you guys think on an OCN 8-slot Gmod Build server? Good idea? Y/N


Edit: Hrm...It seems we may need more slots. Perhaps two servers? Gmod servers with > 8 slots get real laggy....also, more popular than I thought.


For those who don't know: Garry's Mod, or Gmod for short, is a sandbox game running on the Source engine. You are given a huge amount of tools, a huge amount of props, and a huge map. What you do is entirely up to you! build anything you want, your imagination is pretty much the only limiter. Very fun game, only costs 10 bucks.

Gmod will mount the following Source games, allowing you to use their models and maps in-game. You only need one of them to play, and it doesn't matter which one, but it's recommended to have them all:

Half Life: Source
Half Life 2
Half Life 2 Episode 1
Half Life 2 Episode 2
Portal
Team Fortress 2
Counter-Strike: Source

It's only ten bucks. Well worth it IMO, especially if you've always been called the creative type and you tend to like to build things.

If you already know how to run a GMod server and you want to run one so bad, why not start one and invite everyone here to join?

Because a game server running off my mom's E1200 thought my 300KBPS down/100KBPS up DSL connection = total lagfest, and my 4200+ X2 would be even worse. OCN seems to have access to boxes and internet connections that would be able to handle it...


If all 8 slots were full, but noone was doing anything, everyone would be pinging about 150-200 if they were close...

If something actually happens i may pick up Gmod...that game is fun even with two people on lan its so screwed up to see what the other will do...

I would run a server but my internet atm is just as inept as my testis...and my 2.6ghz x2 probably wouldn't do it so well either
