While the TF2 server is undergoing construction, please forgive the constant restarts of the server as we try and configure the server to working order. I will try and work on the server late at night [after 10pm PST] from now on, to accommodate players.

Here are some things we're looking to fix:
  1. Creating a more appealing server name - [community discussion]
  2. Load more cp and pl maps into rotation - [admins discussion]
Here are some things we have already COMPLETED:
  • Changed Server Rates 9/2/2009
  • Installed AFK Manager 9/2/2009
  • Changed Class restriction limit - details below - 9/2/2009
  • Updated and fixed gScramble mod - details below - 9/2/2009
  • Upgraded server to reduce choke/lag - 8/16/08
  • Load KOTH maps when update is released
  • Fixd vote scramble so that it doesn't crash the server
  • Fixed arena maps so that no one respawns.
  • AFK's get kicked
  • Respawn times
  • Taking certain maps out of rotation
  • Better default map
  • Enable vote_kick when no admins in server
  • Rockthevote option now works
  • Class limits on engineer
  • Fix vote scramble so that it scrambles, no just move people around
  • Fix spam time to 1 second

If you have ANY suggestions, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THEM IN THIS THREAD- Post them to the thread listed below. Thank you.

Thank you.

Default Things we won't change and Why

Here are suggestions we've decided not to go with and OCN's reasoning why:

Can we install xxxxx mod/ Crits disabled/ Game play changes ?
No, we're keeping the game as close as possible to its roots. We have only changed respawn times, and one class limit. That class limit is on the engineer, on pl_hoodoo and a global limit on the engineer class of 4 engi's for any map. Other than that, it's exactly the same. Nothing else has been changed.

Can we install xxxxx custom map?
We are currently trying to figure out a private download server so that when we switch maps to custom maps, players will download the map. Otherwise, the server kicks people who don't have that custom map, so if we installed pl_toycake and only 3 people had it out of 32, 29 people get kicked.

What if OCN members can be immune to team switching?
This would mean giving OCN members admin class immunity to other things are there is no specific tool to allow certain steam id's to be immune from team switching. Plus, we don't want to stack teams anyways

Spam filter is still a bit too strict.
You're not allowed to say words on the server, that you wouldn't be allowed to say on overclock.net. That simple, if you think there is a word that shouldn't be on the list, PM me.

Take out the pl_swift map! (pl_swift_final)
It is out of rotation, but we can map vote on it still.

Could you allow custom skins on the server?

Bright green bright pink mods for other teams. Enough said.

I want stock respawns!
The majority of the OCN website has chosen many times to voice their opinions against this. People just dont like 20 second respawn times, to over 80% of the website, things like this make the server unappealing.
Have any questions? Comments? Concerns? PM and we'll discuss.

About the spam filter:

It is not the words that are filtered that is the problem but when you post more than two or three comments in a row, it won't post any more for a little while. That is what is being referred to when people say that the spam filter is too strict.

I thought of another one (with Blizzie's less than gentle reminders).

The Server hosted by... notice says gamservers.com instead of gamEservers.com. We should fix that ASAP.

Map rotation is now set to always go arena. Not great for keeping players.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

When someone changed it to arena, the server would switch [thanks to manimod] to a con_arena.cfg file, meaning the server switches to the settings listed in this .cfg file UNTIL an admin switches it back to a PL or CP map.

This cfg file changes the server name, the server size and the default maplist to a maplist called arena_mapcycle.txt which only has arena maps in it. I fixed this. The server's con_arena.cfg file now tells it to stick with the default mapcycle.txt, and to keep the OCN title of the server, so there is no need for an admin to switch back. Admin's can STILL pick arena maps, but it will auto rotate to the stock maps.

!

Can we please add some of the newer maps into the rotation? Also, definitely put in KotH maps, those will be a blast!
