Default Some Common Courtesy Points for the OCN TF2 Server - For OCN Members

There are a couple things I would like to ask of our members who play on the TF2 servers, especially the ones with OCN tags. Due to the increasing popularity of our server, here are some points I feel should be addressed.

The Points:
  1. Problem: When we change to a new map that has a definite red and blue role (Capture/Defend and Payload) I notice quite a few people waiting as spectator. I understand that some went to get a drink or food, others load slower, and so on. But I would say that 95% of the time when half the players are just spectating after the setup period has begun is due to them wanting to be on the defending team. Sit and watch the doors some time. You will rarely see the defending team having less people than the offensive team. This not only is annoying but it is obvious when people are doing it on purpose.

Solution: Use the random door (or just join the offensive team). Simple as that. Either you will do very well on offense and it will be fun or you will lose and be defending the next round. Joining defense is futile since if you do get on red and play well, you will then be on blue the next round. Everyone knows when you specifically join a team and when you have randomly joined a team. If you REALLY want to defend, then change your preference like it instructs at the beginning of the round. Then wait for a team balance.

  2. Problem: See this type of situation (not this on in particular, but it happens more often than it should). I know we want to be on the same team with each other but it really isn't that important. If you want to work on getting better, find an OCN player on your team and work together, but don't all join the same team. Here is the kicker. If you notice you are all on a team together, then switch. No one likes to join a server where the group who runs the server is all on one team. Even if you lose, it is bad form. Just seeing the stacking makes the other team think "Team stackers...". We don't want that.

Solution: Since we have the OCN name, we should take a little initiative and just switch teams. Chances are the other team will have less players (especially when the stacked team is winning) and it won't be hard. Should your team have less/equal people, just go spectator. If it hurts you that much to 'take one for the team' then get over it. I personally wouldn't mind if there were a team scramble after every round. One of the best feelings is to switch to the other team and turning the tide of the game, or at least slowing the steamroller.

  3. Problem: Actually, this one isn't a problem so I'm very thankful. The hosting groups should always follow the rules and 'help enforce them'. That doesn't mean being a jerk mod wannabe, just that you can point out the rules to those who seem like they don't know. If they continue, obviously alert a mod. When you do happen to break a rule and get reprehended, thank you for accepting the penalty and not causing a fuss. It makes it much easier to moderate a server when the players can grasp the cause/effect nature of breaking a rule.

Solution: None so far, thanks for not making the mods worry about OCN members.

Obviously there are exceptions to all these points. They all take a bit of common sense to understand so if you lack that, then please don't flame/troll this thread.

I think these points especially apply in this order: 1) admins, 2)scrim members, 3) tag wearers, 4)unmarked players. Feel free, however, to take the initiative for any of these points.

I'm loving our new server (even with the little hiccups) and it is great to see it fill up so much. I just think now that more people are seeing and playing on our server, we need to make sure they want to come back. These are some the issues that I hated the most on some other servers I played on so I'd thought I'd point them out here.

Thanks for some great games!!

Agreed. Team stacking was a real problem tonight, and after 3 rounds of it not changing after I brought it up repeatedly....I got tired of it and left to go wash dishes

3 vs 6 and 2 other clans on your team?

I was referring to when all the OCN players go on one team, or 10 are on one and 2 are on the other.

My point is the teams were still heavily stacked from the get go. Sure enough you are right, everyone likes to go RED.
