1988 FTW!

I was surprised to find out that most of the people here (that responded at least) are from '91.

Good idea though

I suppose 17 makes sense. I built my first two PCs at that age, right out of highschool (give it up for the class of '98). One was a Cyrix 200mhz pentium clone for my parents.

The other was the hottest thing I could put together in that day: a PII 450mhz machine with a whaopping 512MB DRAM, 4x Creative DVD player with a DVD accelerator card, since most CPUs could not handle DVD playback on their own back then, the original Sound Blaster Live!, a nVidia Riva TNT video card, which I found rather impressive just because I had never seen a video card that required it's own heatsink, and a hard drive with a nearly limitless 2GB hard drive.
And I absolutely ruled the Delta Force playfield as a sniper. My average game was 12+ kills, 0 deaths I just can't seem to get the hang of these new fangled 'vehicle-based' online FPSes.

I remember building (slightly more recently) an Athlon XP desktop with 512 MB of RAM. I believe it ran at 1.13 GHz or something. It was a while ago. I also remember how CD-R's were just becoming mainstream, and I was so excited about being able to create my own CD's!

(I do remember when computers started playing DVDs too. The computer my parents bought couldn't play them smoothly. I never understood the point if it was more enjoyable on a dedicated player).

Good times.
