Regarding Spammers - Overclock.net

I would like to ask all of our members to not respond to spammers. Please use the report a bad post button

when you see a spam post. Whenever you respond two things happen:

1) You make another post for the director team to clean up
2) You give more visibility to the spam in question

Your help in defeating spam is crucial, so please don't stop reporting the post. We just don't need to encourage the behaviour by making comments.

Ok, since some members insist on publicly responding to Spam, perhaps we should start handing out warnings/infractions for responding.

Please, just report it and move on.

I have a question, if someone replies to a thread with their spam, and you had a post you were about to post, are we allowed to reply (if it's fast enough) or should we report it and wait for a mod to take care of it?

Make your post as normal. As long as you report the spam (and don't quote it) we will take care of it as quickly as possible. In some cases of very offensive material it might be best to let it get cleaned up first. Just be assured that nothing will ever happen to a member that makes a topical post to an existing thread. Just use common sense keeping in mind that your new post will bring at least some attention to the spam. I know that isn't very clear, PM me if you would like me to clarify a little more.

Might I ask how we are supposed to tell if it's spam in the offtopic forums?
Normally I would just look for obnoxious and pointless, but that is half the threads in there.

Spam will always have links to external sites that provide goods or services. In some rare cases there are no links, but a lot of information about a product or service. Generally speaking real spam is very easy to spot. If you see something you are unsure about just say in your report that you are not sure if it is spam or not.

I'm not a mod but here's my take: The Poster usually has no posts or one post, no rep, the post will be for a product completely unrelated about our interests (tuperware, enhancing your sex life something obvious).

Almost all of the spam I'be seen is blatant promotion for some non-PC prodcut...or Porn.
