“Why was Overclock.net created?”
Overclock.net was started in March of 2004 to be a no-nonsense, drama-free environment for people to discuss the pursuit of performance. Unlike the general Internet environment, which is full of people trying to sell you stuff, “flame” you, create drama, troll etc. – we strive to keep this site rid of this these types of detractors. While we will not please people who are interested in this, people looking for great discussions on all things related to Overclocking will appreciate this type of environment. We take a no-no-nonsense approach at maintaining this type of atmosphere. “Where is Overclock.net located?” Overclock.net has servers located in Toronto and Dallas that are used in different capacities. “What is Overclock.net run on?” Overclock.net currently has three hand-built Opteron-based servers in Toronto and one in Dallas. Each server is running CentOS. These servers are supported by Cisco and Juniper switches and firewalls. “How is Overclock.net funded?” Overclock.net is an independent, privately funded community . Our advertising, server infrastructure, domain name acquisition and support staff costs are partially offset by advertising located on the site. Please support our sponsors. “What is a Forum Director?” The Forum Director team are individuals selected by the members of the site and site staff to direct the site in a way that is consistent with our outlined goals. “How do I become a Director?” Overclock.net periodically requests nominations for the Forum Director position. You will see these requests for nominations posted. “What is a Community Director?" The Community Director team are individuals selected by site staff to direct the site and Forum Directors in a why that is consistent with our outlined goals. "What is an Official Vendor?" The official vendor program allows hardware vendors to have a defined and transparent presence within Overclock.net. More information on the program can be found here: Become an Official Vendor “Why are the rules pertaining to proper spelling, punctuation and grammar?" A text-centric community relies on these elements to allow for an enjoyable experience. Whether you are reading a thread or searching for content on the site, spelling, punctuation and grammar are necessities in making this a frutiful experience. “Why must I use descriptive thread titles?" Descriptive titles allow people to search for discussions more effectively and allow members to browse the forum more efficiently. Using descriptive titles is a mandatory aspect of posting a new thread in order to make the Overclock.net experience more enjoyable for all. “Does Overclock.net ban members for no reason?” Overclock.net spends a lot of time and money to bring members here and keep them here, using legitimate means, since the day we started. We have no interest in wasting these efforts by simply banning members for no reason. Please read our Terms of Service / Forum Rules to read more about the site policies and member guidelines. “Why can’t we talk about banned members etc. in the public forums?” Like most larger sites, Overclock.net does not discuss banned members out of respect for both members and the site itself. This approach is consistent with our no-nonsense, drama-free environment. We are not a soap opera or an after-school hangout. We are a site focused on the pursuit of performance. Private messages via PM to admin or a Director are welcomed. Please note though that for the same respect for members and the site will still be maintained in these instances. “Will Overclock.net ban me for being part of another forum?” Of course not. Please don’t believe everything you read on the Internet – especially from people who have a reason to spread this type of misinformation. Simply look around the forum. You will see many members who belong to other communities. Have another question that you think should be listed? Please send them to admin.
