People need to remember this. I see far too many people in the news section not knowing most of these rules. Posting "can it run Crysis" and other stuff in the lines of it, is unfortunately a comment that can net you a trolling warning, or even an infraction.

Additionally, any attempt to derail a topic can do the same. They are not helpful for the forum in any way.

Here is my submission:

If you are to put a location in your User CP, you should put a real one, or else not put one at all.

If privacy is an issue for you, then just don't put a location. It's that simple.

Instead of asking or guessing where you are from, in case of buying/selling or recommending hardware purchases, the information can be easily found by looking at your post-bit.

Example
I start a thread. I need help with finding the cheapest 4890. By looking at my post-bit:

The people responding to the thread can see that I am located in Canada, therefore post responses appropriate to my situation.

Do you think you could mention trying to keep locations reasonable, as it makes it easier to identify those that you can sell to and buy from. Furthermore, it enhances the likelihood of a sale when a 35 reps location is "city, state" as opposed to "neverland ranch being a pedo"

EDIT:

I've had just about all I can take of this, so I'll do this instead:
Quote:
Reputation

The reputation system is intended to acknowledge members who have contributed to the forum, essentially a tally of "thank yous" for good work. In general, rep should be given to any member who provides help to you in a thread or who posts an exceptional post anywhere on the site. Rep should not be given for information shared in a PM, for posts that are not helpful, or for any frivolous reason. You may not ask for or offer to give reps for help; it is understood that members will give reps when they are deserved. For more details, read the Reputation Defined thread.
I see this every single day, and more than once per day. When you say "+Rep for help", you are cheapening every single reply. It can look like every single person who replies is ONLY replying to get a Rep+ out of you.

If you went to a restaurant, then would you put a sign on your table for the waiters/waitresses saying, "I'll give you a tip if you give me good service"?

I don't know what it is, but I'm absolutely sick of seeing this. What compels some of you to promise Rep+ for help? I hate replying to those threads because it just makes it look like I'm only replying to get a Rep+.

I'm not sure what else to say, but I think this is good enough. Or at least I hope it is.

Taeric was the man. He hasn't logged in since 05-15-09

Anyways, this needs a bump. Lately a lot of posts are missing simple punctuation, sentence structure and spacing.

It makes the site look a lot (two words, by the way) better when you look them over and correct mistakes.
