whens this going to take effect, because people are still advertising under 50 rep
It is in effect. You can not START a new thread with less than 50 rep.

But I was thinking... we might make a change tonight where you need x amount of rep or y amount of posts to post in the ad section. Any thoughts?

Hmm, I like the idea of the two together...but figuring out the number for each is the fun part.

I say 30 rep, with 100 posts. You know with 100 posts they arent trolls...and 30 rep seems easy enough to get in 100 posts.

I even like the idea of 50 rep, but that would drive the "posts" number up alot I think.

30/100 seems like a good mark ...

This kind of sucks (not because I haven't got high rep), but your just going to end up with the off topic and other forums crowded with things like Gmail invites. Having a dedicated forum for ads and selling stuff makes sense, this does'nt cos it won't stop people.

GMAIL invites should not be offered anywhere else within the forum. Nor should anything else... except for advice and help

So......if you stop people with lower reps posting in the ad forum.......where are they going to post? Somwhere else...just locking the ad forum will not stop people.

and be honest, reps ain't exactly foolproof are they. I'm ok to admit at least half my reps that i have been given come from gmail invites, so how does that make me a more trustworthy person?

I'm not claiming rep is foolproof The current system appears to be much better than the way it was. I am still open to other ideas though.

Thanks for the tip about your rep half coming from gmail invites. This is partially the reason we made the change to the ad section.

In regards to not following the rules about posting "ads" in non advertising forums: If people can't follow rules, they will not be welcome here. Simple as that. I'm not trying to be difficult, but it seems clear-cut to me.

Ok, cool. I think 3/4 of the 10 reps I got are from Gmail stuff.
