Default Overclock.net Live Server Stats

For those of you who are interested in watching how the backend of Overclock.net, SteveC has setup the following:

http://overclock.net/munin/overclock...clock.net.html

Watch the epic battle between CPUs and traffic. Or watch RAM duke it out with active processes. Who will give in first? Who will be victorious? You will never know unless you watch

Okay - it's not that exciting but I enjoy it

I have and I love it

Seems like server load is almost exactly regulated based on the hour of the day Weekends will be interesting though, I imagine traffic patterns get skewed on the weekends.

This is pretty cool.

With the recent server upgrades just a quick question.

Does adding processors scale performance linearly or is there a diminishing return as more are added?

We have hit the point of diminishing returns - for the time being anyway.

However, when you take into account traffic spikes, upcoming site additions etc. - we need extra processing power at our disposal in order to ramp up/have enough headroom to accommodate such situations.

As you can see by the chart, the site is currently barely even testing 4 of the cores. We have 4 more on the way. Not to mention our Opteron boxes. We should be in good shape now

I completely agree. With the new additions that are expected to come into effect the sites traffic will unquestionably increase.
