I use rep as a gauge of a members experience. It is not always accurate, but I definitely take more heed to advice from someone who has 200+ as oposed to 10. Now, as stated it is not perfect, but the advice on this forum is usually good and I think that is due in large part to the mods policing issues like this.

That's exactly what happens. The points expire, but the warnings and infractions still show. We always look at that when giving out new infractions. If someone has never done something or has not done it for a long time, they ideally get a warning. If someone commits the same offense repeatedly, they get hit harder. This information is available to members as well; we don't hide it from them and then hit them up for repeat offenses. It shows on the infractions tab in member profiles.

Just for a bit of perspective, a member contacted me recently about the perception that we give out TONS of infractions. I took a look at the combined warnings and infractions given each day for the previous five days. The most given in one day was 10. Considering that we average over 6000 posts per day and have other things such as chat going as well, that's a very small number (which is how we like it!)

good to hear, I actually didnt know how that works, never receieved an infraction or seen one really. been on pbnation too much but since I retired on those forums, ill be on OCN now
