That is a good idea, but that could also be abused.

Is there a way for the forum to recognize that if they post in hardware news section, and in the field of text/images they leave talking about ripping and cracking and burning a dvd then could the thread be auto reported?

That would be cool, but only while it lasted.

Good thread mate, good rules, easily workable. And besides, it makes it easier to find the threads tagged with these correct tags. Makes searching that much easier

Ok this is understandable.

HOWEVER.

If I'm looking for our good/funny threads, I WANT to search tabs for "epic". This is simply not cool guys. You're hindering the use of the tagging system by strictly limiting it.

And I still say that we require the privilege of using "spam", "this is spam", and "do not reply" for spam threads. I mean, I just don't see how that's harmful to the tagging system.

Yes, I understand that it can be misused in legitimate threads. But you guys said it yourselves that you can see who posted what tags, so there's really no reason for at least these 3 tags to be disallowed.

I agree! I mean what the heck! If we tag actual spam as spam, you're gonna infract us??

C'mon guys, get the power under control

We don't look at it as a hinderance, it is streamling the tag system to our core content. We want the content concerning overclocking and computer technology to be easy to search. Also, an idea like "epic" doesn't really lend itself to being useful as a tag anyway. In our example above we show how one tag can lead the user to different threads because of how they work in conjunction with each other. The idea isn't simply to find a single word to describe the thread, but a collection of words to describe the thread. Epic is simply an opinion. Since everyone may have a different opinion they must be excluded.

As far as spam goes, there has been absolutely no noticible change in the posting habits of our members regarding spam. Given that there is no real change in who posts, this is really a moot point. If it actually made a difference it could be a different story, there is just no data to justify that it does.

This isn't about a power trip, it is about taking control of a site feature and ensuring that it is being used as intended. The way the tag system was used in the past was embarrassing. The site management has every right to see that its resources are being used properly. We have a set of very simple rules that are clear in regards to what type of information we want to see in tags. Willfully breaking these rules will have a similar consequence to breaking any of our other rules. When you agreed to become a member you agreed to follow the site rules, and that those rules are always subject to change. We saw a misuse of a site system and have taken measures to correct the problem.

Hmm. Well, I believe it's still way too early to tell.
