New Site Feature: Spam Squad - Overclock.net

I am very pleased to announce that we have a new site feature that is currently in the final stages of testing. In an effort to reduce the impact of spam on our forums we have created a new user group- the Spam Squad.

The standard Report Bad Post procedure will contain an extra option for members of the Spam Squad. When a post is reported using the "Spam" option it will immediately fall into a moderation queue. This means that the post will instantly disappear from the site. The regular moderation team will then identify if the marked post really is spam and proceed accordingly.

Membership in this group will be based on a number of criteria: Time as a registered member, Reputation and Post count. There will be no other way to gain membership into this group other than by these criteria. If you meet the requirements you will automatically be added to the group. The requirements are as follows:

1 year of membership
1000 posts
150 rep

The Spam Squad will be strictly limited to removing Spam from the site. Also, you will only be able to flag messages when the posting member has created 5 posts or less. Any person caught abusing the system will be dealt with very harshly (15 point infraction lasting 1 year). There will be no additional warnings. We welcome anyone to report a post that violates the ToS, but only Spam can be flagged for immediate removal. If you aren’t sure a post is really spam, then do NOT use the spam option.

Please note: Spam in this context refers *ONLY* to advertising spam. It doesn't apply to posts which are posted in the wrong forum or posts which make no sense. Spam Squad members are meant to only flag those posts where they are sure it was a spammer. I really did think this was obvious, but it has been brought to my attention that it was not.

Over the next few days members fitting the entrance requirements will begin seeing a change to the “Report Bad Post” screen. At first the Spam section will contain only a brief message about the Spam Squad and what we expect. Then you will see a checkbox and an additional warning about proper usage. Once you see the checkbox, the feature is fully implemented and you may begin using the tool.
