Intel has dropped their prices considerably and are now price/performance the way I would go if I was looking for a single system.

However, you could continue with your ram on an AMD system and a 3700 San Diego will get close to 3.0Ghz with the proper air cooling. It would save you getting the new DDR2.

San Diego runs $238 on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103622 (there is a $235 version, which is the older revision).

When buying a new Intel, you'll need DDR2 RAM; you cannot use your current DDR.

The San Diego is a SINGLE core CPU, which is fine for current use. If you want Dual Core, Intel offers the best price/performance. Example: the Pentium D 930 costs $213 on Newegg (Dual Core, 3.0GHz): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116238

What's your budget, so we can play a bit with different options.

You can use DDR with LGA755 but you need an 865 or newer chipset and a 915 if you want PCIe with DRR. The 915 is also the highest chipset that supports DDR.
