Equilibrium - the Bipolar Foundation

Yes, it is a mental-illness charity. UK Based, but I am sure that there is similar over the pond where i think that most members are located?

PS. I am Bipolar type II and it is not fun when it rears its ugly head.

I am not going to recommend a specific charity as too many worthy of funding. I think as a community ourselves that are on the fringe? I mean come on we are in the 99% of normal computer users. In our actions and dare I say knowledge.

I highly recommend we help a research charity as the potential while less tangible versus a maintenance type. Might offer greater future benefits. Of course helping and feeding adults and children in abject circumstance is essential and worthy. I believe the shooting for the stars approach is more consistent with OCN mission statement. Even if OCN does not have a mission statement. It would be something like " Do what others thought was not possible". That said.

I think MS is great but it is well funded. As are many of the other glamor diseases and conditions. Please do not misunderstand that comment I am not insensitive. I really do not mean to bash MS. But it does for the amount of people affected get a disproportionate amount of funding vs many others.

A crazy Idea I have is? Why not talk something like matching funding. Not exactly and not dollar for dollar. But what if OCN has it's members pledge money to their charities. And the $100 is divided among proportionally? A hundred is not much but if combined with member contributions it could gain much velocity?

I would also consider, is OCN able to process contributions? I mean of course not really handling or charging but as a place where members could pledge? That would make OCN's contribution far greater than $100. It is just a thought. I think if you were able to facilitate the contributions of members would be substantial. It would give our members a good feeling of helping. It would also let us all distribute the money we feel individually is most important. That would reduce the impossible choice of which is most deserving.

The $100 would be symbolic. The $100 would become 100%. How it was distributed would be based on member participation. if 10,000 was pledged well OCN would contribute $5 to say mental health. But that would end up being $505? And all the rest likewise as a consolidated contribution.

The hard part is can OCN set up something like this? Both practically and legally?

I hope so?

If anyone thinks I am insane please consider what I have said and maybe offer better that could work?

I hope to be doing something for them in the Future. It would be nice to help those who suffer from the condition.

Having HD myself I can appreciate the major can of worms it is.

Cheers for the consideration.
