I was glancing through this , the inside of the DiRT manual and this is what it says. What the hell does it mean by "the gameplay of a pirated copy will degrade."?

Think that might be either relating to online access - pirated version not having any online access

Or that the disk itself wont be of the quality of an original? Not sure really

No its talking about codemasters FADE system. It checks if a game is being run from the original disk. If not it changes the gameplay to such an extent that the game is not worth playing.

no there are no screenshots I can find, but lots of forums complaining that the system works. It was first introduced in operation flashpoint and did things like putting your sights out on your weapons so you will never be able to fire in the same direction twice, and randomly turn your player into a seagull

It's a great idea, too. If nothing else, it completely decimates the bull**** "I pirate, sure...but I buy it if I like it" argument. The system basically gives you enough time to figure out if you like it or not; so when the game degrades, it's time to put up (and buy the game) or shut up.

That's what all the complaints are about.

It's not "If I like it, I buy it"

Its now "I'm not going to buy a game that buggy"

You just can't win

Understood. The system really should tell the player exactly when and what is about to be degraded as it happens so that pirates don't assume it's a bug and start badmouthing the game publicly.
