I know all of you have been suffering some performance hits with Crysis, so here's a solution: run it in DX9.
Wait don't freak out yet. Trust me you won't notice a difference in quality if you do what I say, and maybe the quality difference is so small that you can't notice, like I didn't. Download the attachment below (CVarGroups.zip). Inside you will find 13 files. Now navigate to Electronic Arts > Crytek > Crysis SP Demo > Game > Config > CVarGroups, and inside that folder you'll find 13 files with the same names. Now all you have to do is to overwrite those with the ones you just downloaded. Lastly, right-click on your Crysis SP Demo shortcut on your desktop (or in Game folder for Vista) and choose Properties (for Vista, highlight the "Play (Play)" line and click Edit). The Target should appear as: "(Whatever drive it's installed on):\(Wherever the hell you installed to)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Bin64\Crysis.exe" Now just add -DX9 on the back of it and it should look like this: "(Whatever drive it's installed on):\(Wherever the hell you installed to)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Bin64\Crysis.exe" -DX9 In my case it is: "E:\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Bin32\Crysis.exe" -DX9 Now start the game. You should notice that all settings go up to "High", but with those 13 modified files, High is actually Very High in terms of quality. You should get a nice performance boost without any noticeable quality drop. I have played DX10 version on Very High with low framerates, and the quality between that and this looks the same to me. If you don't believe me, believe the screenshots below. Depth of Field ![]() Light Diffusion ![]() Volumetric Lighting and Aztek wants to eat you ![]() NOTE: this is for those who own a 2900/8800 card, struggling with maximum. If you still struggle, you might not want to overwrite all 13 files. This trick does no more than forcing Very High on DX9 mode, even though it looks no different than DX10.

__________________No resolution changes available(any good ones) All dx10 disables so i put it on xp, much better now, sligh comprimise on fps slightly lower, about 40 now, but its runs a tonne better, anyway i think it was performing well because it was on the crappy default res not the full 1080i like I am used to lol.

From the demo. I just overwrote High values with Very High values. I thought it's easier to just upload them for you guys to copy over instead of retelling the whole process. I'm user-friendly.

nice find. it does help, however DX10 still looks way better. basically what i noticed is that running 1680 x 1050 with this 'mod' installed gets the same dx9performance as 1440 x 900 in DX10 on v.high. personally, i choose to settle for the lower res in DX10.
FYI: for those who cannot run 64-bit mode...i have found a solution on the incrysis forums. go into your Nvidia control panel, then manage 3D Settings. at the bottom is the Vsync setting, with the options of App Controlled, Force On, Force Off. basically, you have to either force it on or off for 64-bit Crysis to work. worked for me. i force off obviously, no way anyone will be able to hold 60fps yet.
