Default CS:S Lanparty!

Hey I'm gonna have a CS:S lanparty soon, is there anything special I need, and HOW exactly do I MAKE a server for this party?

Also, how do I implement the "GunGame" and which versions? Thanks!

ok, well i hope you know a little about basic network setup, and setting up computers.

i would have this for each pc:
A computer
A monitor
Necessary cables
Mouse
Keyboard (preferably not wireless, wireless causes problems)
Mouse pad
ethernet cable for each person.
power strip (6 cables to an outlet, to avoid a blown fuse)
you will most likely need a ethernet switch, or router or something to link all the computers together.

For the server, you can either have a dedicated server, or host it on someones computer (dual core atleast).

and for gungame this is how you do it.

http://forums.mattie.info/cs/forums/...ic.php?t=10728

make sure you have space for everyone,

I have to go to school, so when i get back ill continue to help.

Best if you get a few gigabit routers will cut down on lag when you got alot of players and bots in games.

In theory you will only benefit from a gigabit switch if all the client PCs are using gigabit NICs. Your average desktop PC will only have a 100 megabit network card.

Also, make sure you buy a switch, not a hub. Hubs are slow and evil. Switches are much faster.

I think the most important questions at current are.

1. What machine( Specs please ) will be hosting CSS GunGame ?

2 What OS will you be using ?

meh, a CS:S server you can run on a pretty crappy box and still get decent performance out of it.

its been awhile since i've made a dedicated server, but if you google it, the internet has a wealth of information on the subject.

CSS is not demanding..you are right. However if a host system has to cater to many clients then you need to take this into account.

In anycase for us to hel p you better it would be a good idea to tell us your system specs anyway.
