Usually the animators work on a workstation with a decent card, then when they are done with their assigned scene, they send it accross the network to the render farm, where is enters the queue to be rendered.

Those deskside units like the Quadro Plex are basically only useful for scientists doing visual calculations and simulations.

/computer animator btw

Crysis was made in the future and sent back in time to a day when computers were simple with only cores instead of 50^223 x 3 which you need to play crysis.

Pros: I loaded up Bioshock and maxed out the settings, but this graphics slit the game's throat then ate it's entrails for dessert. It slammed Assassin's Creed's head onto the curb then stomped its head into that curb until it was nothing but a bloody pulp. This card is one bad mo-fo. It'll backhand your sister and degrade your mom, but they will still love it and want to date it because it is just that good. I love this card so much that I burned my tongue trying to french kiss it, and I still keep trying.

A lot of the coding isn't about graphics... those could be developed on any decent PC. Checking AI reaction, physics, etc.

Also, the workstations don't have to be that powerful if they use a client-server model.

To answer most of your questions: (1) a fridge cannot cool a PC (2) 64-bit OS for over 3.4GB (3) If a PCIe card fits, it will work (4) Resolution, not screen size (5) If you have a question, it is not news (6) Report, not respond to Spam (7) Single/Non-Modular Rail PSUs are NOT better than Multi-Rail/Modular
