Default Guide: How to backup your CoD4 profile data

Ok I've seen this problem several times now so I figured I'd just write up a guide instead of posting on everyone's thread. I'll have it sorted so find what applies to you and contiune.

All OS:
First off, you're going to need to make hidden files and folder visible. In order to turn them on you need to go to your folder options under tools. I've attached pics for those who need them, Pics 1&2 are Vista pics 3&4 is XP. If your running Vista then your going to need to press the alt key in order to get the menu bar to appear. Then you will need to select the view tab. Once there you will see a radio button to "show hidden files and folders", select it then click ok. Then what you need to do is copy your mpdata file in order to back up your profile but the location changes depending on what OS your running so...

Windows XP:
C:\Program Files\Activision\players\profiles\(your profile name)

Windows Vista x86:
With UAC Disabled:
C:\Program Files\Activision\players\profiles\(your profile name)

With UAC Enabled:
C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles

Windows Vista x64:
With UAC Disabled:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\players\profiles\(your profile name)

With UAC Enabled:
C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles

With Steam:
C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\common\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\(your profile name)

Then make sure your mpdata file is on like a jump drive or an external HDD this way if you ever need to reinstall you'll still have it. Then if you ever need to restore it just copy it back into whatever folder you got it out of. Hope this helps some people out.

Also if you ever lose your CD Key and need to restore it off of a different drive you can follow these steps. The key you are looking for is located at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Activision/COD4

Edit: I added in one for steam but I'm not 100% sure on that one as I don't have the steam version.
Edit: Added pics on how to turn on hidden files.
Edit: I added in how to recovery your CD Key out of a previous Reg Hive.
Edit: Thanks to OmegaNemesis28 for his input on the steam folder location.

I did that at lvl 55. Somehow I managed to save at lvl 17 and not 55. No worry, Goggle search and a COD4 reinstall and I was back at 55 in about an hour.

I made an edit to the first post with the path. I'm not 100% sure so if you could confirm.

Edited the guide again, I didn't realize that I forgot to turn on hidden files.

Ok, I edited in some pics on how to turn hidden files on and put in a section for steam users. I'm not 100% on the steam part seeing as I don't have that version so if someone on steam could verify, thanks.

Bokomaster, I found it. So I just take the folder that's my user name and the text file and copy it to a jump drive or something. And if my Vista crashes again, just copy and paste that file into the profiles folder?

The most important file for you to have is the "mpdata" file. That's the file that stores all of your stats and rank for multiplayer mode. The rest of the files are just config files and your single player mode save data.
