Unhappy Counter-Strike Lag

Ok, so heres whats happening. I can play CS:S for about 10 minutes perfectly. Awesome. Great.
Then it starts to lag, and it's getting real annoying. I can hardly even play. I've tried playing CoD4 which I normally play perfectly also, and that lags too.
Any help/advice?

what are your rates set at the cl_cmdrate the cl_updaterate and the rate?

and how much choke do you get?

try putting cl_cmdrate to 101 and cl_updaterate 101 and for rate put 25000 if you have cable but if you have dsl put 20000 for rate

Try checking your ping while you play. Sometimes your internet service can be the culprit. I can usually play everyday just fine with my Rogers Cable service, yet on 1 out of 100 times, i'll just have a bad day with my internet.

It's rare, but it can happen.

To remedy the problem you can try the obvious, restarting router, modem, and even reconfiguring your wireless (if you have wireless --- say from 802.11g to n).

But other than that, it seems like you'll just have to wait it out.. seems to be your net service to me.

EDIT: and just like the above poster, make sure your rates are set to those rates (i'm assuming you already had them set)

It's happened for a few days, and I've gotten lag in servers where I've had less than 50 ping. And I can play fine for like 10 minutes.

I believe he means fps lag, not actual lag. Use the right words damnit!
I didn't know the solution either so I suggested he post it here.

rates are how many packets your computer sends to the server and back and I think choke is when the packets can not get through

just try putting the commands I gave you in console and see if it helps

Just enable the console command by accessing the advanced tab in Options.

enable the console ~

and then enter cl_cmdrate 101, cl_updaterate 101, fps_max 999 (although most servers lock it at 300) and net_graph 3, and rate 25000.

That might help all of your lag probelms. And no guys, it's not video lag. I'm sure.

And make sure you have vsync forced off in the nvidia control panel.
