They are two completely different games.
Personally I'm voting for Diablo 3. I was disappointed when they announced Starcraft 2 and not Diablo 3. But now I am satisfied. I was always a C&C guy so I never really found an interest in Starcraft. Maybe i'll give it a try though.

I was getting ready to type 'I have to choose?' but turns out you've made that one as well.
I think both will be incredible and will take up a lot of 2009 for me.  More D3 though, the online portion will be so much more fun because I suck at RTS games.

Guys this is blizzard we already know that both games will be awesome by any standards. There is a reason for why Starcraft has lasted so long on Battle.net is because players can make their own maps without learning complex scripting.
__________________This time around the way Blizzard took the scripting engine for Starcraft two ways (C based and trigger based) will cause the map library to explode. Now Diablo 3 is just shear fun, when blizzard announced the game an they said the words "skill bar" I almost fell over. No more scrolling though spells and most of the time too lazy to strategically use my spells. I think all these games will do is continue Blizzards legacy of making great games and like SClegacy says "A legacy never ends".

It is nearly impossible to compare the two games because they are completely different genres. SCII is a RTS game while Diablo III is an action-RPG game. The only really comparison that can be made is that they are both made by Blizzard.
With that said I'm going to play the **** out of both games and love every second of it!
