Default Steam will not show text on Vista 64 bit

I have had Steam installed for awhile and have had the problem where TF2 will crash for some reason and I get HL2.exe has stopped working errors, but that is not my major problem right now.

I was playing TF2 the other day and everything was great. I actually had one of my best games ever. But when I restarted it a day or so later, there is no text showing up. ***? I have restarted, shut down other programs, reinstalled Steam almost a dozen times, and it still will not work. I am getting very angry right now. Here are a few screenshots of what is going on.

This is what I am seeing. Before I uninstalled it I could get into TF2 just by remembering where the buttons were, but even in TF2 there was no text!!! I did not change ANYTHING on the Steam client to make this happen.

Well I know it's not much help coming from me, but it seems as if it is just loading jpegs/images and now text like you said. Did you try to completely uninstall (going in and deleting the whole steam folder from your PC)? Make sure to save your games if needed, but that's the only thing I can think of.

I had this problem its an easy fix, its because vista doesn't render old fonts properly, there is a registry fix you can install from this site http://chris.pirillo.com/2006/09/26/...-vistas-fonts/, or you can install the tahoma font.

Then why did it work 4 days ago, and everyday before that? Vista is a pile of crap.

Ok, did that fix, and it works! Rep for you! Thanks.

But I still cannot excuse Vista for being so stupid. Did it suddenly decide one day, after probably 100+ instances of Steam being run that it did not want to read this font? That is baffling to me and any sense of logic that I assume everyone has.

I tried that fix. It did not work. Seriously, to hell with Vista.
Its not Vista its probably Steam. Ive had tons of issues with steam getting always these "Close Program" Errors and so. Steam needs to fix this fast. It does not like Vista x64 or x86.

I have never had one problem with Steam in Vista. Aside from a random HL2 crash.

When I first had vista, I couldn't play CSS, but I could play HL2 offline. I would try and connect to a server and the screen would act like it was going to the Counter Strike menu screen and then it would just crash. Now it's fine. Sometimes when I'm closing a game, it'll say that it has stopped working and crashes, but never any crashing while in game.

That's the "problem" that they are talking about. Quite contradicting.
