In no particular order:

Bioshock
the most weirdest fps you will ever play, but that's what makes it fun and the story is great
The Orange Box HL2 original/ep1/ep2, portal, tf2, all those games are really fun and 5 for 1 will save you some money.
World of Warcraft #1 mmo in the world, although there are a ridiculous number of WoW haters out there..

Well, those are the ones I've played, I'm sure there's more.

EDIT: CS 1.6 (the original) & Warcraft 3 are pretty old but still fun.

if there is only 2 games you can buy for pc then it would have to be the orange box (half life 2 is the best pc game ever) and call of duty 4.

Alrighty. I can do that also.

Left 4 Dead - $50
Bioshock - $20
The Orange Box (Includes Team Fortress 2, Portal, Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Episode 1, Half Life 2 Episode 2) - $30
Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne - $35-$40
Counter-Strike: Source - $20
F.E.A.R. Combat since it's free at www.fearcombat.com
World in Conflict - $30

Get all 7. It totals to only $190.

I would add the new Prince of Persia, and after a patch or two, Rise of the Argonauts.
