just noticed this!!!!

you don't manually rename files, it doesn't change the format

Windows Dreamscene CAN NOT play .divx files, or .avi

only .mpg and .wmv , just renaming the extension doesn't convert it

so you probably corrupted the file, compressed the corrupted file, and uploaded, hence its not working for most people

so to solve this problem - just convert the .divx file to .wmv or .mpg
formats

He is right. Only MPEG's and WMV's work.

Yes it can... It uses the same codecs as Windows Media Player so if you have that working it should be fine (Yes I know in reality it's not; you don't have to post saying something like "Well obviously it's not noob, just change the format") . There's just some simple coding that says "If it's not .mpg or .wmv, don't try to play it."
If it's "corrupted" and windows can't play .avi for Dreamscene, then how is it working for some people? If what you said is the case, it would work for absolutely no one.
Here's a website that backs up the fact that all you have to do is rename the file extension...Link

To solve this problem, rename the file extension of the video. For example, change the .AVI extension to .MPG or .WMV.
I'm not at home right now, so I can't work on rendering it into .mpg, but I should be getting home in an hour or two.

Doesn't work on windows 7. So a mpeg would be appreciated.

a mpg or wmv would be highly appreciated

how ever, can you list every single codec you have installed on your system

could explain as to why it doesn't work

atm i have k-lite full codec package installed, has a :turd: load of them codecs, divx, ac3 filter, etc etc

and all the other :turd: gone, but it still refuses to play, doesn't matter if the files are renamed .mpg or .wmv , invalid format error comes up, it runs fine with wmp11, also have media player classic, and vlc

i mainly use winamp, and vlc

I only have the k-lite codec pack for x64 installed right now and all 4 are working fine for me. I tried rendering the original uncompressed .avi into both .mpg and .wmv briefly yesterday and today. I either got an error message every time or the resulting file was not good enough quality (either jumpy framerate or degraded image quality). I also tried just using a converter to convert the already rendered versions to .wmv but the resulting file was absolutely horrid. I'll mess with it more today.

One thing I just thought of: when I installed the Klite codec pack, I manually selected DivX to be decoded by the official DivX codec, not ffdshow or whatever the default is.

Sorry about that, rapidshare decided to crap out on me for some reason, they're being uploaded again now.
