How to Play Computer Games When You Aren't Allowed
This is an imperative skill for all pre-teens/teens who have zero-internet-tolerance parents. This is also great for study hall/computer lab when you've finished everything and don't have a book. Hide these ads Steps 1. Check up on what your parents/teachers are doing. If they are out of the area, perfect! If they are in the next room, not so perfect. 2. Have an excuse ready. (See tips for suggestions) 3. Turn your computer away from room entrances, (preferably so no one but you can see the screen.) 4. Pull up "cover" screens. Have things like Word programs, school websites, and educational sites pulled up. You can exit your forbidden program and have these as a cover. 5. Turn off your sound. Nothing can give you away like sudden music or noise from your computer. 6. Have a back-up buddy, a friend or close sibling who will cover for you if you are caught. Be prepared to give them something for their services. Tips * Choose a site or game where you can easily and quickly exit out of the window. Programs with clear exit buttons are best. * Excuses are best when specific. Have good details! Excuse ideas: o "I've been trying to get this report done. I'm getting there." o "I was just finishing up on my project for science class. Did you know that Chinese "Silk Worms" are actually caterpillars? How weird is that?" o "I've been researching (Find a good topic that you are truly interested in; have that on back up screens)." o Blame the website! Cover up your gaming with "Urgh, these darn pop ups are everywhere." * If you aren't a good liar, don't even try. Parents can often tell if you are lying. Good Lies: (see excuses) * When you tell the truth... or most of the truth.. be prepared to get in trouble. With parents, the classic "I'm so sorry, I'll never do it again! I feel so guilty!" plea is a good bet. What ever works for you. * Two fast ways to exit for semi-recent windows computers: alt-F4 to close the window, (if you stop your word document in the middle of a sentence it looks like you're typing) alt-tab to change the window. (it shows a small window with all the icons of the programs that are running. Hit tab repeatedly to change the selection.) Remember to try this before you use it in action and practice it a lot! * Or, download a virtual desktop with a hotkey. Add random work things to one desktop. When someone comes in, they won't be able to see any games or websites. * Have a school website up on the Internet. Then have your games website pulled up when your teacher looks likes she's coming towards you hold alt then press tab then release. * If the game you're playing is online, always delete it from history to avoid being caught, even if the chances are minute. * If playing at home, immediately quit when you hear the sound of a door opening. Chances are, your parents just arrived home. * If your quick-close or quick-switch manuver fails (for example, if you close a highly graphical game and the old game window takes too long to disappear), then you might try turning you monitor and computer off and pretending your computer crashed. Obviously, do this before anyone sees what is on the monitor. This works quite well with laptops (particularly Thinkpads with a rear-end loading battery): slam the lid down, act mad at the computer, and remove the battery as fast as possible. You will most definitely draw attention to yourself, especially if you do it often, but you destroy any immediate evidence of a recent gaming session. * If your game is browser-based, then try playing it in a browser other than your default internet browser. For example, the default internet browser on Windows is Internet Explorer 7, so maybe you can discretely install Firefox and use that for all your illegit browsing and game-playing. If you want to be very discrete about having your secondary browser, then remove its icons from the desktop and start menu. If someone wants to check your browsing history, then almost always they will go for the default browser: Internet Explorer.

Win key+M minimizes all windows. Of course, you have to be running your game in a window. I have also heard of some USB button that you plug into your computer, install their software, and then when your boss walks by you can just tap the button with your foot and whatever you were doing gets replaced by work. That would probably work for you.
EDIT: Here is the link http://www.gaj-it.com/7652/usb-panic...games-at-work/
