If it crashed back to the desktop, i'm starting to wonder if you have a virus. The last time I got one (which was long ago), thats exactly what would happen. Games would start to load then either get in to the game and crash or the game wouldn't finish loading before crashing right back to the desktop.

Kind of unlikely he has a virus problem when he's tried three different operating systems, don't you think Black?
Given that you're seeing the same things on three different OS's (all clean installs, with fresh game installs, correct?) I'm inclined to think it's somehow hardware related. For sure, you should drop ALL overclocks and see if it goes away. Do you have an extra HD laying around you can try? Seems unlikely it'd be an HD problem, but stranger things have happened. On the more likely side ... what are your NB temps like? I would consider keeping a close eye on your NB, cpu and gpu temps, seeing if the crashing is happening right at the point you reach some specific temperature. Speedfan is good for this sort of monitoring, it can log all of these temps for you, so even if you hard crash/reboot, you still have a record.

OK first off what the hell is that supposed to mean? Of course I think. Kind of like you, I assumed, that because he's reinstalled so many times that more than likely he has his patches and other various files saved. He could've very well saved the virus right along with them and then re-install the virus on every "clean" install. I had something similar happen so, while this may be unlikely, it's not beyond the scope of reality. And the symptoms he's describing were exactly the same as mine. The only other thing I can think of is some sort of hardware conflict. As my XFi also has caused crashes of certain games (BF2/2142).

Ok since you're crashing to the desktop its either a hardware conflict or a virus. First start off by downloading Avast, its a free virus scanner. Run it and see if it comes up with anything.
