If you click Resources, you see a calculated list of your metal, crystal and deuterium each hour, day and week. You use these resources to build your empire by upgrading buildings, research and ships to attack other players.

What you should aim for now is to complete the requirements to build Colony Ships. Click Technology on the left and find Colony Ships. Next to it are the requirements you need to build before you can build that specific thing. Red means you do not have it and green mean you do.
