Mine doesnt freeze at all, never has.. I have had issue's with FPS drops but I fixed that by turning up my GPU fan speed while gaming.
You can try turning off AA and Anisotropic filtering and maye turning off bloom and trying other settings. Mine only ever ran with everything at ultra when I was running 2 GTX 260's in SLI.
Now I only have 1 GTX 260 and I turned AA down to 2x and Anisotropic filtering to 2 samples.
Also turned off Vsinc.
