Default Will OnLive Be The Death Of Traditional Gaming

OnLive

I have been reading up on Onlive, although it looks very intrest, it looks like i could destroy traditional gaming.

People wont buy Components for there PC any more because of Onlive.
Could it kill PC Modding?

If i have a quick enough internet connection then i will buy it because its cheaper than updating you computer

If you dont know what it is heres the website www.onlive.com

it won't. the latency alone will be enough for any serious gamer to buy a hard copy of the game.

Yeah the latency kills it for anyone serious about gaming. Also, most of us in the states, or anywhere for that matter, don't have a fast enough connection for streaming 1080p video and 5.1 audio, not to mention the download caps most of us have as well.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Even longer answer: Untill home internet connections become 10GBPS lines with 100% reliability, OnLive is doomed. Hell, I have enough trouble with Steam connecting because of my internet, and that needs only to talk to Valve for a few moments to log in.

Even if it does become mainstream, true gamers won't use it. Least of all me, I like being able to mod my games at will. To do anything. Even design nuclear payload capable rockets, if that's teh case(Lol Gmod, I've actually done this. It failed, but I tried. nuke went off on launch). So no, On Live is doomed.

...and the latency will still be there. I dunno about you, but 50ms or so of input lag kills most games, and that's being optimistic on ping.

I can live with up to 100ms. I guess playing Gmod has conditioned me to tolerate more lag than most...normal pings for a busy Gmod server can be up to 300ms. Only then does it get truly unplayable...tho for an FPS(Gmod is a Sandbox game where you have all the time in the world to aim and your target isn't flying around at mach 9 trying to glock you to death), anything over 100 is unplayable.

Remember i'm talking about input lag, since all your controller inputs have to go back to their server, be processed, then sent back to you before you see them on screen.

I agree with you that 100ms is playable in most games, but that's not input lag. When I click, I still shoot, it just might not hit the dude. That's much better than clicking...then waiting a 10th of a second to actually shoot.
