Some of us live for FPS and anticipate games months before their release. Searching the web for every new screenshot and coveting every gameplay video we find. Today I hear some troubling news that has me worried about the state of major titles in PC gaming.

First we had the months of great screenshots and excitement over OFP2: Dragon Rising. Then the reality hit home:

-No Punkbuster or VAC
-BAD control mapping, feels like a bit like a clunky port
-What happened to the graphics? Looks nothing like the screenshots in the ads.
-NO Dedicated server support <- the kiss of death.

Now with the news that COD: MW2 will not be delayed for PC we hear that:

-Price hike to $60
-No punkbuster, but VAC protection
-NO dedicated server support

I don't get it. No dedicated server support will kill these games on the PC. It already has killed OFP2, as I was just noticing all of 12 games in the browser the other day. No one can host a 32 man game on their home connection. So why is Activision now doing the same thing? I hope this is not another attempt at the "steam cloud" like they did with L4D. Are they just leaving us PC gamers behind in favor of consoles? This is the first time I am genuinely concerned about this..especially with word that Valve is changing their focus to console development. What gives? Are we that much of a minority?

i would hate to think we are witnessing an exodus from PC gaming as me and several friends sold our xbox 360's to move over to pc gaming.

yeah MW2 is turning out to be a dud. I've already decided I'm passing on it. No dedicated server support IS very troubling. I don't understand why they would remove it.

Oh wow. Modern Warfare 2 on PC will fail compared to the other Call of Duties.

I think the reason Dragon Rising 2 doesn't have support for dedicated servers was because it was never implemented in the Ego engine. Which comes from GRID and DiRT.

I am new to computer gaming. I have always played some, but didn't have the means to play newer games and i didn't play online, with the exception of Starcraft, diablo II, a little bit of battlefield 2142. I did play some Call of duty 4 on Xbox live, which i assume didn't have dedicated servers, and it seemed fine to me. What is the difference between dedicated server play and what will be used, other than the lack of 32 player support, which to my knowledge isn't supported in COD games anyway

Also, what do punkbuster and VAC do? All I know is that sometimes i couldn't play 2142 online because Punkbuster kicked me out because i wasn't up to date or something like that

Amen!! Saves me money actually. LOL

However, I will not purchase this. I honestly could care less about SP. For me it is all about the multiplayer and playing with my clan. We run a now swearing, respect all server. I enjoy playing in that environment and showing folks the door that cannot play that way.

In fact I am going to cancel my preorder tomorrow afternoon. These "Gaming" companies can bite me.
