Default OCN, I am making a game, and I need your help!

Hello OCN! Lkegley9 here reporting from the battlefield of current day games. New gameplay elements are released each and every year with an all-out war on general gameplay and graphics. Explosions, blood, guts. The scenes are unreal out here in the battlefield.

[back to reality]

Alright, now, do I have your attention? I had my own attention when I wrote that, and thats rare these days for me.

I am, quite simply, making/creating/recreating a game. The game engine will be made in Flash, ActionScript. The base game engine is already created. If anyone here is familiar with Madness Interactive, it is a very, VERY old engine. It was created in 2003 back in the MX 6 days. But I have been working with this engine for a long time. Its open source, so anyone can work with it and modify it. (Its not my engine, before anyone starts throwing around, YOU DIDN'T MAKE IT, crap)

But I am working to rework the engine. Add better physics, more realism (except in a 2D format), way more graphically advanced guns, characters, the whole nine yards. I plan to change it from Madness characters, to some new character (that still has no arms, just a hand). A planned free-roam-ish component will be added, as well as a real-time RPG-ish component, where you need to maintain your weapons, collect items and use them for random things, stuff like that.

But what I need your help for, is basically this. If you are going to play a game, what the heck would you want to see in it? Let's get a collective pool of ideas, and slowly compile them into a... well... waterpark of ideas. Then install the filtration system and put stuff in it.
.. did you like that imagery? I did. Again I caught my own attention ..

So, enough talking from me. What do you have to say? I want to here OCN's voice in this. Credits will be added too for each, individual idea and addition for the game. It'll end up being a long list if as many people help out as they can.

Also, if you know ActionScript and how to get around in Flash, send me a PM. I would love help. Also any artsy people out there who also can get around in Flash, your help would be appreciated as well.

And cheerleaders are always welcome.. just leave the poms-poms at your firewall.

Also, be aware. I have a life too. I can't work on this 24/7. I have classes and such, but I am attempting to work it into my own schedule.

THINGS I AM LOOKING FOR SPECIFICALLY:
but not limited to...
-Specific weapons
-Game modes/general gameplay
-Game components/elements

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read through that whole thing. I know it was lengthy, but it should be considering the content.

The chance of good, slightly operating ragdoll physics in 2D is slim to none. Programming it in ActionScript, even less. And my ability to figure it out on the very slim chance that it can be coded in Flash, even worse, so we're taking maybe... a 1 in a 10000000 billion chance. Its estimated though, not exact.

i personally enjoy games with a lot of depth, one that will keep me interested for a long time
i also think that the most essential thing to keeping a person playing a game is making the core gameplay FUN (cough WoW)

since you're doing a shooter, i know it may be hard on flash but, i always loved the satisfaction of seeing target get shot and the way the body moves realistically, like in f.e.a.r or cod 4

try to do something unique with the art style, the more unconventional and experimental, the better imo

good luck with the game

Thanks for your input. Appreciate it. Yeah I will give you that, even though I don't play WoW anymore, that thing was freaking fun. The core gameplay was just so long lasting. I will see what I can do. Let me know if you can think of any ideas for the core gameplay to keep it going. What would you like to see for a shooter RPG?

That could work. Only issue is you wouldn't be able to aim at a target. It would probably be random. Yeah I thought about having reactions, like the enemy will drop his gun sometimes and grab his gunshot wound. Things like that.

Unique... unique... unique. NO WHAMMIES! Damn...
No seriously, that is what I planned, only problem is coming up with something unique. I have a couple of good, artsy friends who might be able to do such. My character designs SUCK! I can't think up anything.

Thanks for the good luck. I will probably need it.

You should take a look at a Flash game called S.M.O. Arena. While it is little blobs, the "physics" of getting shot are pretty realistic.

Checking it out right now. Thanks. Sounds interesting.

Very nice, yeah I like the way the guns fire and such. Overall its nice. I will have to work on something like it. Except, minus the blobbing and add the awesome character-ness.

Yeah, add variety to your guns (it has a lot), but realism might be hard for you (i.e. making people look like people) with Flash and 2D I think you said. Keep us updated.

Thanks Project Timez, yeah variety in guns is what I know won't be a problem. Making the guns, themselves, have realistic movements, recoils, reload sequences, things like that, also not difficult.

Again, thanks for the support everyone. Gonna get started on it tonight, start adding a few quick, simple things and work from there.

Other thing I'm looking for is what guns you specifically would like to see, like a laser pistol or something, things like that. What real guns would you like to see? Specific weapons such as a baseball bat, whatever you want to kill people with.
