Default Should I get a racing wheel controller for Dirt 2?

I was seriously considering getting a wheel controller for the upcoming Dirt 2 game (yay for freebies with my Radeon 5770), but I'm a little more doubtful after watching this video review:

http://www.giantbomb.com/dirt-2/61-24513/reviews/

One of the guy insists that getting a racing wheel for Codemasters games like Dirt 2 is a waste because the game is too fast--implying that twitchy gaming with a pad would work better than big, steering motions.

But I'm thinking, what fun is a racer with your thumbs? I could never fully enjoy games like Gran Turismo in the past because of this.

What are your thoughts? Maybe I'll try out something cheaper first, like this:

If you are going to buy a wheel to test the waters so to speak i recommend at least taking a look at the Logitech MOMO (looks like they recently removed the MOMO from Newegg )

I would have to agree though that the game may not pair so well with a wheel...i have played Dirt 1 at least and i doubt they have changed a lot on the core game...

Either way you still have a wheel for the many amazing racing titles out for the PC...you'll find something to do with it surely

Actually if you take a look around the Dirt 1 mod community there may be some game tweaks/mods etc out that can make the game a bit more suited for wheel racing

I'd try something cheaper first and if that works for you then go with it. That wheel looks pretty good pretty much all 5 and 4 eggs.

Imo the only games actually worth buying a racing wheel for are either the Forza series on XBox or the Gran Turismo series on the PlayStation. Playing those games with a wheel is sooooo incredibly more realistic and cool and you'll have so much better control. Then you really start to appreciate the simulation level of those games.

I have the Logitech Formula Force wheel and play Dirt1/GTR2/rfactor quite a bit...I can't imagine playing that game or any other racing game with anything BUT a wheel. I imagine Dirt2 will be even better...can't wait. I'm getting ready to get the Logitech G27 after xmas.

GET THE WHEEL...you won't regret it.

I was going to say Lol...

Anyways, the logitech wheels are the best. Ive tried out a Micro$oft wheel and it suckd, wouldn't centre properly, its a common problem with the wheels bad design.

The only problem with gaming wheels is you need the space, dont bother using your lap for a wheel you need a sturdy desk if you have force feedback.

If your not sure you want a wheel get it from a retail store so you can easily return it if you dont want it.

As to twitchy racing games, like rally games wheels are fine, youd think you cant spin the wheel fast enough buT you can. At first when you get your wheel you will suck it takes at least 2 days to get used to it.

Cheap but excellent wheel http://www.frys.com/product/3422283 pedals are crap though.

Even with arcade racers a wheel is more fun.
